Literary Reading in Dramatic Decline - July 8, 2004. The
results of a survey conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts indicates a decline in the number of American reading. Fewer
than half of American adults read literature.

section and a magazine of articles and reviews.
The British Council Arts - Information on literature, film, drama, music, and art
in the UK. There are biographies of contemporary British authors in the literature section.
Book Information Website - There is something for every
reader at this site - book arts, history, dealers, repair and much more.
The National Book Foundation - Presents the National Book Awards
for outstanding American writing. October has been designated as National Book Month, but, if you are a dedicated reader,
you probably read from January to December.
Based on the Book - A directory of movies which are based on books. By
the Mid-Continent Public Library.
Book Terminology - A glossary of book terms from the American Booksellers
Association. Useful for terms like incunabula and vellum.
Rave Reviews - This site deals with bestsellers - the
books we really read. It includes information on the Taylor collection of popular fiction at the University of Virginia, a database of
bestsellers, and articles on making the bestseller list and the effect of movies on bestsellers.
Top Selling Books - Current list of the 150 top selling books
of the week compiled by USA Today.
Overbooked - A book site for ravenous
readers with extensive links to book sites and reading lists. By the Chesterfield County, VA Public
Library.
The Booklist Center - Extensive collection of links to
booklists on the internet.
Fiction Lists - Booklists
from the Madison, WI Public Library
Neglected Books - Lists of good books which have been overlooked, forgotten,
or have disappeared from library and bookseller shelves.
AllReaders.Com Book Reviews - This readers advisory service enables
you to search for fiction books using over 2000 criteria or submit a review of the book that you
have read.
Library Thing - You may enter a catalog of the books that you own. and locate people with
similar reading interests to yours. You may also obtain a list of titles recommended according to your reading interests.
Which Book - If you are looking for a book, try this site which
allows you to find books by choosing from such characteristics as happy or sad, sex or no sex, funny or serious. You may
also search by location, or type of plot or main character.
The Rating Zone - Computer generated recommendations
of books or movies based on the your ratings of movies or books that you have already read or
seen.
Book Browser - Has some interesting features but is mainly
a store site for Barnes and Noble.
Modern Library's 100 Best Lists - The best English
language fiction and non-fiction lists of the 20th century. There are lists by Modern Library's advisors and lists by readers.
FictionDB - This is a database of authors and titles of
mysteries, westerns, and romance novels. Good site if you wish a listing of all books by an author.
There are also some book reviews, and links to author web sites.
Reader's Advisory Work with Genre Fiction - This is the syllabus of
a course for librarians taught by William Robinson. This site has many useful web links and print sources for genre fiction.
Best Titles Ever! - Government documents with interesting/strange/intriguing
titles. A few examples: Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation: Are We Doing Enough?, National Money Laundering
Strategy, State-of-the- Art Dummy Selection, and Do You Know Oatmeal?.
Amusing Useless Facts - "Bookkeeper is the only word in the
English language with 3 consecutive double letters". This site contains many useless facts like
this to keep you entertained.
